Luton got themselves back to winning ways this week following
a home win against Southport today.
The boys in orange beat their rivals, including ex-hatter
Godfrey Poku, 3-1 as striker Stuart Fleetwood fought his way to the top of the
conference goal scoring table and Scott Rendell netted two against the
Southport keeper, Tony McMillan.
Town got off to a winning start when a strike from Stuart
Fleetwood hit the back of the net within the first 5 minutes.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep this up and Southport
pulled a goal back in added time as Luton looked like they had already started
their half time break.
Manager, Paul Buckle, must have given his boys some stern
words in the dressing room as the Hatters came out into the second half
fighting to reclaim the lead.
And with the help of number 10, Scott Rendell, this became
the case in the 47th minute.
Dominating the play once again the Hatters were pushing
forward and creating chances.
Not long after his goal Rendell found himself put on the
spot again as Luton were awarded a penalty following a foul on striker Stuart
Fleetwood.
Luton’s history with shots from the penalty spot isn’t a
very enjoyable one, but a stuttered run up from Rendell sent McMillan diving
the wrong way and putting the Hatters further ahead.
There are still some big cracks in play but winning 2 games
in a week is a much needed improvement for the boys, the boss and the fans.
Luton go to Lincoln next Saturday where they can hopefully
improve this winning streak and find a much needed clean sheet.
