We had front row seats; unfortunately they failed to tell us front row meant we were sat on the stage! I thought at one point I was going to be expected to join in with some high kicks and choruses of ‘Let me entertain you’.
Having absolutely no clue what the show was about and no expectations of the performers I was going in with wide open eyes, ears and mind. I was definitely not disappointed. I really enjoyed the show, which proves sometimes it’s best not to know anything because had I have known I was going to watch a piece of musical theatre set in 1920s America I would have turned the other way and missed out on a fantastic evening.
Anyone who had planned it to be a quiet night out would have been awoken by Rose, the leading lady with lungs the size of the theatre (and boy did she show them off.)
I did also find a new career path and have decided burlesque is my newest aspiration. Of course I’ve seen the film with Christina and Cher but still didn’t really know too much about it. I guess I still don’t.
But what I do know, I love! And what’s not to love about wearing marvellous costumes, stepping into a different persona and strutting around a stage?
One line that stuck with me was “keep them wanting more, and then don’t give it to them” so hopefully I’m going to do this to you now as I leave this short but (hopefully) sweet.
