As I had previously mentioned, the boy and
I spent the weekend in Birmingham last week to celebrate the return of Bowling
For Soup.
BFS have been a love of mine since I was
about 13 and as I was stood in the 02 Academy screaming along to the sped up
hits with the 4 men on stage I felt no older than I did when I loved the songs
for the first time.
I have seen BFS a handful of times and was
at their Farewell Tour in 2013 where I screamed along in a packed corn exchange
in Cambridge. When I heard the news that the boys (well, men) were returning to
the UK I knew I had to be there!
The set for the show was an old English
Pub, made complete with a fully working bar at the side where many of the
support artists stood and watched the show. Even after time out, the atmosphere
was electric at the sold out venue. The break in their live performances meant
we queued in the rain around the block in Birmingham but the boys belting out
their best hits made it was worth every raindrop.
Jaret did state that he could never take a
British heckler seriously as all he hears is ‘Storm The Castle’ when he is
shouted at by an English man, which led to lots of castles being stormed
throughout the evening.
As always, the show included a medley and
this time it was to show that pop punk is not, and will never be, dead! Hits
from Blink 182, Green Day and an amazing rendition of Fountains of Wayne’s ‘Stacey’s
Mom’ proved this and before I knew it the boys were saying their first goodbye.
The boys saved the best, or at least the
best known, until last and ended with ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’ this was the
song that first opened my eyes to this genre of music and the fact that not all
boy bands sang whilst being sat on stools and wearing matching suits. For this,
and so much more I will forever be grateful to Bowling For Soup and hope to see
them lots more in the future.
