The Hatters made history yesterday as Luton Town became the
first ever non-league team to knock a premiership team out of the FA Cup taking
them through to the fifth round.
Scott Rendell’s 80th minute goal saw the ‘underdogs’
take the lead after missed chances from both teams and the best shot for a goal
from the Canaries was denied on the line by Alex Lawless.
All three substitutes played key roles in the goal as, top
goal scorer, Stuart Fleetwood made a great pass down the wing to JJ O’Donnell
who took the ball and ran with it before making a cross into the box and onto Rendell’s
game winning boot.
The allocated 4,000 travelling Luton fans remained loud
throughout the game and Buckle believes they played as much of a part in the
game yesterday as he did.
Luton gaffer, Buckle told Lutontown.co.uk: “We couldn’t have
done it today without the supporters. When we came out for the warm-up they
were singing and getting behind us.”
Consistently noisy, the Town fans could obviously feel they
were about to witness something special as Buckle added: “Mid-way through the
second half, I think they could sense that we could do something – and we have.
It’s a wonderful day for this football club.”
Luton goalkeeper Mark Tyler kept his team in the game with
some superb saves off his line at the club he started as a youngster.
Yanos ‘big-man’
Kovacs also made it very difficult for Norwich by keeping a tight hold on their
striking force Grant Holt with Norwich fans even asking for Kovacs to release
Holt from his pocket after the game!
