Woking V Luton Town

It may be the start of a brand new year but it was a case of the same old game for Luton fans that made the trip to Woking today to see their team defeated 3-1.

After conceding in the 3rd minute from yet another poorly defended set piece the Town gave themselves the difficult task of playing catch up once again.

However, it didn’t take long for the visitors to level the scoreboard, as Andre Gray received a well sent ball from Alex Lawless and sent it straight past the Woking keeper and into the top corner.

With both teams unhappy with just one point the ball was end-to-end as the players fought across the heavy pitch that was falling to pieces underneath them.

Going in at half time 1-1 it was still anybody’s game as both Luton and Woking took their chances trying for another goal.

Luton striker Jon Shaw must have made it his new year’s resolution to get his name on the scoreboard as he penetrated the Woking defence and was denied goals by both the goal post and crossbar.

Almost straight off the back of Shaw’s second unlucky shot, Woking took the ball and ran with it. Straight up the other end of the pitch and following a shot from Bubb, Woking striker Knott got his second goal of the game putting the home side on top once again.

And before the Hatters could even have a chance to retaliate Woking’s substitution Stockley headed the ball past Mark Tyler three minutes later to take Woking 3-1 up.

Substitutions for Luton were made with just 10 minutes to go as Stuart Fleetwood and new signing Jonathan Smith replaced Jon Shaw and Arnud Mendy, but it was all too little too late as Woking were still dominating control of the ball.

A final Luton substitution was made minutes later seeing Lathaniel Rowe-Turner relieve Jake Howells in the final minutes of the game.

But in those dying minutes Luton didn’t do enough to secure even a draw and took nothing but a sore head back home with them.

Mistakes that Hatters fans have seen be made all too often since being relegated into the non-league were still obvious today as there were echoes of ‘Buckle Out’ all around Kingsfield this afternoon.

Oh well, only Wolves next! Check back to see how the Hatters match up to the Championship side in the FA Cup draw this Saturday 5th January.
