Still Pushing For Promotion
Luton Town have confirmed John Still as their new manager following his departure from league club Dagenham & Redbridge.
62-year-old Still was the bookies favourite to take over the non-league Hatters after manager Paul Buckle left the club suddenly due to personal reasons.
John Still has conference experience as he managed Dagenham & Redbridge to league promotion in the 06/07 season with his team scoring 93 goals and claiming 95 points – 14 more than second place Oxford.
Luton have signed Still on a two-and-half year contract with achievement-based extensions. Managing director of the Town, Gary Sweet, told lutontown.co.uk: “We are all genuinely thrilled to welcome John to Luton Town.”
Sweet also thanked Still’s previous club Dagenham & Redbridge for ‘not standing in John’s way’ before wishing them well as they entered a new era.
Sweet also told how Sweet hasn’t joined the club based purely on his records although they ‘speak for themselves. He has chosen Luton Town as the club he feels can become his new home and for us all to tread new ground.”
The fee in which Luton paid, as well as the new managers wages, have been a major talking point in the run up to his confirmation however John said: “If I didn’t want to come here and they offered me a million pounds I still wouldn’t have come. Money doesn’t motivate me.”
Another hot topic was the drop in division for the ex-league manager but ‘anything is possible’ says Still and he will do everything he can to get the club promoted without promising anything.
He said: “I think I have a formula that has always worked. Will it work here? I haven’t got a clue. I just want to make the club the best it can be.”
