We stayed in a cottage with 30ft river frontage where I sat out to drink my morning coffee, eat my lunch and unwind in my onesie. We had planned on a back-to-basics week and made no plans, however, we did have some great days out including going into Great Yarmouth, photographing seals lay on a beach and watching pilots jump between ships coming in at Goulsten pier.
I would blame this on my lack of internet interaction, however, I have now been home for a week and feel as if that is running thin so I better show my face, or at least my words soon!
One thing I didn’t imagine was that I would enjoy being ‘disconnected’, I mean I have heard people go on about it being relaxing and the best way to shut down but with Instagram to check, blogs to upload and videos to watch I couldn’t have thought of anything more stressful than not knowing what was going on. How wrong I was!
I loved where we stayed, I took walks (and runs!) through fields and across beaches and once again I was seeing things through my eyes and not a screen or a lens. Obviously, I did take pictures for when my brain gets too old to remind me of the memories but I found it so refreshing to see things how they looked in the, sometimes harsh, light of day.
My film camera made its way with me everywhere I went, I haven’t yet got round to developing the films but I managed to use up 3 whilst I was away so when I have the photographs I will be sure to scan some in and show you some of the sights.
I also found myself caring less and less about what my signal was on my phone or my battery life on my laptop. If I thought of an idea for a blog post I wrote it in my notebook and planned to type it when I got home. I am pleased to report I have done this in the most part!
This is the part where I turn into one of those people encouraging you all to ‘switch off’ from your technologies you find yourself constantly on and engage with everything that is around you right now. If nothing else it will make you appreciate everything you do have so readily available from the various lines of communications to instant maps and directions to the photo editing at the push of a button.
Try it out and let me know how you find it. I am already planning on leaving my phone at home next year!
