Over 880,000 ceramic poppies were planted outside the Tower of London, each poppy representing a British military fatality during this war.
Standing outside the tower looking out into the sea of red; the scale of the artwork, and what it symbolises, really struck me. I can read really big numbers so when I saw that there were 888,246 poppies I knew there would be a lot. Just how many that was, however, only hit me as I stood amongst thousands of people looking out into the poppy field.
Every picture I had seen beforehand had not fully prepared me for the views and just how emotional the whole experience would be. The people were arriving by the hundred, people of all ages and from all regions.
If you have the chance, it is definitely somewhere I would recommend visiting before the poppies are taken away. I can only imagine what it will be like in a few weeks when the memorial service is taking place.
