If you are reading this from across the pond you will be in full Thanksgiving mode, stuffing yourselves with turkey and pumpkin pie, making trips around all the family and getting ready for the biggest shopping day of the year!
Here in the UK, Black Friday is making the headlines as it hits our high streets but the giving of thanks is something that has not travelled across the ocean with it.
I try to remember at least once every day how blessed I am but, especially as a woman, that is not so easy.
My good friend Zara is always trying to remind people to realise just how lucky they are, to trust their struggles and to remember they are blessed. In fact, I have a necklace from her inscribed ‘count your blessings’ hanging from the head of my bed so it is the first thing I see when I wake up and the last thing I see when I go to sleep.
I also have a poster of hers stating ‘Want something? No excuses!’ above my mirror on my wall to remind me that whinging about change will not get me anywhere, only I will!
I am so blessed with the family and friends that surround me but I also know I am guilty of not telling them enough just how much they mean to me. Something as small as a catch up text, or telling someone I like their haircut really does go a long way.
So, even if you are not sitting down to a big family thanksgiving dinner tonight, please take a moment (or many moments) to realise just how blessed you are and give thanks for all the things you have.
There will always be someone with skinnier legs, a faster car or a bigger house that you want, but there will also be someone wishing they had exactly what you have.
