Home of The Beatles, and apparently not much else, Liverpool prides itself on the 4 boys they produced, that went on to produce worldwide mania never seen before in the music world. So, when in Rome and all that, we did as all good tourists do and visited many of the famous Liverpudlian landmarks including the original Cavern Club, the Royal Liver Building and a 4-storey Forever 21 (well, it is quoted to be the shopping capital of Europe!)
One of the first things I noticed whilst walking around Liverpool were the ‘Super Lambananas’, sculptures with lambs heads and banana shaped bodies that were decorated in 2008 for the European Capital of Culture. These decorated animals were dotted all around the city in many different colours and styles; they were even pin pointed on the bus routes.
Walking around Liverpool I saw a place that is proud of what it is and what it has to offer; the biggest boy band of all time, two premiership football clubs, some amazing architecture and shops you could get lost in for days.
The museum of Liverpool takes you through the decades in the city, I saw how the businesses, transport, sport, music and shopping of the city evolved. There were hundreds of interesting things to look at spread across 3 floors, the walls were full of quotes about the city that many people have come to love. There are galleries dedicated to The Beatles as well as the tragedy of Hillsborough and the Justice for the 96.
The boy was in his element as we walked down Matthew Street and through the Cavern Quarter. The shops were full of memorabilia and each of them blaring out a different Beatles track. Every street had a plaque for a different moment through the boys career.
I would definitely recommend a day out in Liverpool; I am planning on going back for a few more so I can experience all that the nightlife has to offer, I just need to remember to leave the rollers in my hair.
