Last night, Sunday, I went to the cinema with my Mum to see a cinema I had been anticipating for a few months.
Boyhood tells the story of a boy growing up, making friends, falling in love and becoming a man. The most unique part of this movie is that director, Richard Linklater, used the same cast, began filming in 2002 and watched as his story panned out over the next 12 years.
Possibly the most daring moves a director has made to my film knowledge but definitely one that was worth making. In the audience I literally saw Mason (played by Ethan Coltrane) grow up in front of my eyes.
The story brings authenticity as it is not a film made to look 10 years old; it was actually filmed 10 years ago! The music, the style, the technology and especially the cast are all living in that moment!
This film has been described as a ‘coming of age story’, and it is definitely that! It is hard to not get completely lost in Mason’s story as we see him transform from a lost boy to an awkward kid and grow into a young man.
With all the makings of a must see movie I expect to see this added to the lists of ‘movies to see before you die’. I would recommend this to everyone; there are moments that anyone can relate to.
Watching this film is definitely a few hours you will not feel have been wasted!
I am now going to check times so I can watch it again!
