This weekend I decided to try my luck at making a nappy cake, I have seen them online and at baby showers and decided Baby Humphries needed one as well.
Firstly I needed to buy the supplies so I went a bit mad in the baby aisles. I stocked up on nappies from Tesco; baby grows from Mothercare, bibs and lotions from Sainsbury’s, a teddy from TKMaxx and some personalised items from here. I then needed to get the supplied to put the cake together; I bought foam cake tiers and ribbon from Hobbycraft and a bag of elastic bands from a stationary stop.
I started by rolling all of the nappies and putting a different colour elastic band around each. The nursery is jungle themed so I tried to make the cake fit that as well. I got coloured baby grows with animals on and some animal ribbon, I also got animals printed on the personalised clothes.
To make the cake I simply started placing the nappies around the bigger cake to make the bottom tier and tied the ribbon around the middle. I then began rolling some booties and bibs and placed them around the smaller cake to make the top tier and put some orange ribbon around that. In between the two cakes I rolled some clothes and put them around the front and stood the lotions at the back.
I then placed the personalised bib on the top so the name draped down the front and sat the teddy right in the middle on the top.
For a first try I was very happy how it turned out, although I didn’t need as many supplies as I thought and ended up with a bag full of clothes, bibs and spare nappies. It did look really cute in the nursery with all the other animal teddies though and I can’t wait for Baby Humphries to arrive so I can see him/her wearing everything.
