Luton Town V Darlington 13.03.12

Luton managed to secure 3rd place in the table, but after having another man sent off and giving away two penalties the team look far from settled.

Hatters fans have seen more red than orange recently with 4 players sent off in just 3 games. John Paul Kissock started the trend in the dying minutes of Luton’s away game at Wrexham. Jake Howells and Keith Keane then followed at York with a straight red for the Welsh U21 in the first half and Keane receiving his second yellow and following Jake down the tunnel.

Cards were also flying in full force at Darlington with Godfrey Poku being given a yellow card in his first start for The Hatters this season and Janos Kovacs seeing red in the 82nd minute. And it wasn’t just the away players getting penalized as Darlington also saw 4 names put into the refs little black book.

On the ball, Town did dominate the majority of the game with shot after shot but M.O.M Jordan Pickford managed to stop every ball that came his way and when Luton’s McAllister missed an open goal it was starting to feel like the travelling players were never going to score.

Godfrey Poku should be considering himself lucky to have stayed on the pitch until the final whistle after giving away 2 penalties within 15 minutes and following a first yellow card. The first penalty put Luton behind with less than 5 minutes of game time to try and make a come back.

But, with an excellent run from youngster Jake Woolley and a perfectly timed shot by Stuart Fleetwood, that is exactly what they did.

However at 1-1 and into the 4th minute of extra time Poku gave away another penalty leaving every Hatters fan feeling a little bit defeated.

In the last minute of the game Darlington’s Ryan Bowman stood up to the penalty spot; however Mark Tyler silenced Darlington’s early celebrations with what will definitely be considered the save of the game and leaving all 123 fans in Luton shirts that night queueing up to kiss the man that just saved the game.

Godfrey wasn’t too humble to join the queue and said he gave Mark Tyler a “massive hug” after the game.
