Luton Town’s position in the play-offs is far from secure,
as fans are calling for the sacking of manager Gary Brabin, following a 3-0
defeat away to Forest Green Rovers.
With only one real chance from the Hatters in 90 minutes of
play anyone watching or listening to the game could tell this was not a squad
that would take the Town up to League football, as even the Luton fans joined
in with chants of “Football League? You’re having a laugh,” by the end of the
night.
An early shot from Stuart Fleetwood met the foot of FGR
goalkeeper Sam Russell and was sent over the bar. It was this moment that even
Gary Brabin admits his team put their heads down and couldn’t pick them back
up.
Ten minutes before half time, and with FGR dominating the
play, Kieron Forbes passed to Rovers striker Yan Kluklowski, who managed to run
into the box and shoot a left footed strike right past Town keeper Mark Tyler.
After the break Luton did come out with a new burst of
energy and tried some new runs to create chances, but after a few minutes this
began to wear off. Following subs made from both sides Luton had an opportunity for an equaliser with a
corner, however lost possession and FGR decided to take their chances. It paid
off with two men running towards a one man Luton defence Matty Taylor made 2-0
look effortless.
Many fans were wishing the referee would have blown his
whistle then as it couldn’t get any worse, could it? In the 90th
minute a run made by FGR centre-back saw the ball end up at the feet of Matty
Taylor which led to him getting his second goal of the evening.
A lot of unhappy disappointed fans will be making the journey home followed by what I imagine will be a near silent team bus. I also imagine there
would be no love lost if that bus forgot to bring back a certain Mr. Brabin.
