Mum’s The Word

If you’ve walked past a card shop, a chocolate shop, a supermarket or even a pet shop recently you would have noticed that today isn’t just 18th March. It’s also Mothering Sunday.

Slowly becoming one of the most commercialised days of the year every shop is now giving us new, exciting (and expensive) ways to tell our mums we love them.

What I have never understood is why just this one day? Why can’t I wake up tomorrow and decide I want to tell my Mum I am grateful for everything she does for me, or make her a cup of tea so she can relax, or present her with a bar of chocolate just for being my Mum?

Because it doesn’t say so on my calendar that is why!

However, as cynical as I may be, I knew the day was about my Mum so I gave in to the overpriced cards, flowers and chocolates to show my Mum that just like the other 364 days of the year I love her today.
