Luton Town v Tamworth 18.02.12

Three weeks since their last home appearance, Luton Town managed to continue their unbeaten run with a 3-0 victory over Tamworth.

The clock read 15 minutes at the wet and windy ground when Stuart Fleetwood laid a strike from Curtis Osano’s deflected shot and put the Hatters in the lead. Almost immediately following his set up to goal Osano took a knock and was replaced with Adam Watkins to see Alex Lawless drop into right back.

Minutes before half time Greg Taylor tried his luck at goal, only to be saved off the line by the Tamworth keeper. Goal scorer Fleetwood also tried for a second and then with only moments left of the first half Tamworth’s Kyle Patterson broke free only for his shot to be cleared by Luton defender and Captain George Pilkington.

A power cut threatened the second half at Kenilworth Road but the weather had brightened up and the game started as normal, with the boys in orange coming out in fighting form. Early chances from Stuart Fleetwood and Hungarian defender Janos Kovacs set the pace so far.

Sixty three minutes in and John Paul Kissock crossed the ball to the far post where an unmarked Kovacs took the opportunity to head the ball into the goal and Luton went 2-0 up. Minutes later and Kissock was substituted for Craig McAllister to put some more pressure on the Lambs defence.

Stuart Fleetwood produced another lovely ball onto Welsh U21 Jake Howells at the back post who crossed the ball for Kovacs to use his head again. The ball took a deflection of Tamworth defender Francino Francis and went into the goal and we saw Kovacs celebrating for the second time today.

A last minute substitute for the Hatters saw Aaron O’Connor being replaced by winger Robbie Willmott and with only minutes remaining Luton still fought to increase their lead. Strikes from Greg Taylor and young Hatter Adam Watkins narrowly scraped the goal seeing the Town gain a well-deserved three points and clean sheet.
