Time To Reflect

The end of another year is nearing and as 2014 closes I have been reflecting a lot over what has been a pretty life changing twelve months.

So much has happened this year that I feel has changed me and my outlook on things, hopefully for the better! I had some amazing first experiences, saw some fantastic shows, visited beautiful cities and met up with friends I hadn’t seen in years. I made memories in different countries and learnt a lot about myself and people surrounding me. I said goodbye to my mum for a year as she began her own amazing journey across the Atlantic and I began a journey that involved just me and Dad, a wonderfully dysfunctional half of a family!

At the end of last year I wrote a post that listed 14 things I wanted to do in 2014. (You can read this post here.) I decided to look back over that list and see just how well I did.

TRAVEL – I feel like I have travelled this year, I deepened my love for the big cities in February when I visited Manchester and Liverpool. I also visited old friends after about 10 years when I travelled alone to Tenerife, I spent the most relaxing week of my life sat on the edges of the Norfolk Broads and I visited the dainty little seaside town of Clacton. This is definitely something I would like to do more of next year and every year after.
READ – I haven’t read as many books as I would have liked but I am a slow reader! I read more John Green and Nicholas Sparks; I have just finished Vicky Pattison’s autobiography ‘Nothing But The Truth’ and have moved on to The Book Thief. I will let you know how that one goes.
SMILE – I have had to remind myself of this a lot more times than I should and this will always be something I want to work on. I worry TOO MUCH and need to just relax and enjoy.
SWEAT – I have tried a few new things this year and plan to do a lot more of it next year starting with some intense workouts. More on that soon.
SCREAM – I am still a massive baby when it comes to scares and rarely did much this year that I was afraid of. However a massive thing was booking a holiday and getting on a plane all by myself. That was a great big fear crossed off.
GO NAKED – I have managed to keep my clothes on this year. Well for the most of it anyway! But have begun making much more of an effort on my face and although I will never be the girl that gets up 2 hours early to do her hair I have started making a more conscious effort.
SLEEP – Failed. My sleep still sucks and I think that is something I am going to have to learn to accept!
SHARE – This began so well and I was taking you guys along for all the rides and then there was a bit of a lull but I am making an effort now to get back in the fast lane, full speed ahead.
REVISE – Another big fail. Still not driving argh!!!
EXPLORE – I definitely have done this. The boy and I have got on our bikes and taken my camera out and found the most unusual, cute, little places locally. This is something that will continue.
FLY – Tick. Just in case you didn’t hear I got on an aeroplane by myself!
GET BRUTAL – I have gotten a lot better at this. I am much stronger now before I buy things and have been brutal in what I have kept.
PHOTOGRAPH – This is another great big tick. I probably annoyed a lot of people this year as I was constantly photographing EVERYTHING.
TALK – I have done this although not as much as I had planned. I did meet some great people though, and even if only for a day I made a new friend.

All in all, I had an amazing year full of the highest highs but balanced out by some terrible lows. No matter what they were though, they all played a part in leading me where I am today. I am lucky enough to be able to say I am happy and healthy and am completely in love with so many things around me. That is one thing I definitely do not plan on changing.
