Clacton? I Haven’t Heard That Name In Years

Last weekend the boy and I went down to Clacton-On-Sea to relax, see some sights and eat some fish and chips.

Clacton is a little seaside town in Essex, it was a place my Granddad went and somewhere I would hear my Nan talk about fondly. After the weekend, I can see why.

The beaches are lovely, a perfect mix of sand and stones with a beautiful sea that I dipped my feet in a lot.  The sights are gorgeous and the area is so flat that we ended up walking along the beach into the next town!

However, Clacton is definitely not the place I would recommend for a wild weekend, or even a night out! As we were walking around after dinner it seemed as if everyone in Clacton went to bed at 9pm! It was the height of the summer holidays and arcades were closing as early as 8pm, pubs were closing at 10pm and the one nightclub (opened by Joey Essex) was only open one day a week!

The entertainment is very traditional for a seaside town; there were more arcades than I could count. I spent a lot of time dropping 2ps into machines trying to win toys and teddies that I didn’t really need! The pier was full of arcades, a bowling alley, an aquarium and fairground rides. We did have to pick up some warm doughnuts on our walk along the pier.

We also played miniature golf one evening, the game was just the right length and the last hole was a trick hole that gave you the chance to win a prize. I won the golf although the boy will try and say he let me win!

If you are looking for a relaxing weekend and you are lucky enough to get the weather we had, you will have a great time.

I would go back for a day trip once I’ve saved a few more 2ps!
