Last Monday (11th August) my Mum got on a plane from London Heathrow to the big apple. Only for a few hours, however, as New York was just a stopover! Mums final destination was North Carolina to begin a new chapter that will take up the next year of her life. A place, I must admit, I knew very little about.
Mum leaving was, and is, probably one of the biggest things to happen in my life. I know I am (legally) an adult but every little girl needs her Mum! So, of course, the selfish part of me really didn’t want her to leave.
The bigger (and better) part of me had to pull myself together and be proud of her. Which I am. Very much so.
My Mum has taken a massively brave step in moving to another country, completely apart from her family to begin a job she didn’t really know too much about with people she has never met before. That takes some serious balls!!
And thanks to the digital world including Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp and of course here, my Mum and I can share our lives on a regular basis.
I will obviously miss my Mum, there will be times I will want to ring her up but realise it is only 2am and she will be asleep. There will be times I will come home and expect her to have put the kettle on. But, it is only a few thousand miles and it isn’t forever (or if it is I am on a plane out to join her!)
