Countdown to Christmas – December 12th 2013

One of the big Christmas traditions in our house is the stockings. They hang from the banister every year and every Christmas morning when I wake up my stocking has been filled.

In my house the stocking is the only thing that gets opened before breakfast, (Christmas Day in our house is very ‘routine’ and nothing is allowed to steer away from that!)

I have had the same stocking ever since I remember and we always get the same things in our stocking; a chocolate orange, a tube of sweets, some chocolate coins, a piece of stationary and one miscellaneous item.

Only a few years ago whilst discussing this with my boyfriend did I come to realise not every household was the same on Christmas Day. He stopped getting a stocking when he became ‘too old’ and from then I came to find out some of my friends didn’t even have stockings they dove straight into presents when they woke up!

From that moment I made the decision that you are never ‘too old’ for a stocking so would make my boyfriend a stocking every year and fill it just like mine.

Over the years he has opened up the usual chocolate goodies and some fun stuff such as a Transformers stationary set, a Mini key ring, a bottle opener and a mini teddy.

This year I have gone all out on his stocking and as well as the usual chocolate-y goodness I have bought him a giant Santa pencil, 150 stickers, a finger bike and a surprise that nobody knows about.

I am going to try to enforce the rule that his stocking is the only thing he opens before breakfast but I am not convinced this will work, wish me luck!

Do you have a stocking filled on Christmas morning; do you have a stocking for decoration, or do you not have a stocking at all?
