Last night the boy and I made a spontaneous trip to one of our favourite places to eat out, The Sizzling Wok. It is a Mongolian wok buffet where you can fill your bowls (and your bellies) for just £7.50 each.
You get given a bowl and load it from a choice of meats, veg, spices and sauces. You are in charge of what you want, and how much of it. For a fussy eater like me this is the perfect menu! Your food is then cooked on a giant hot plate in front of you and served up to you on a plate.
We are always given rice and prawn crackers on arrival so the first bowl is always the smallest. I also like it as I can try something new that I wouldn’t normally order from a set menu as I wouldn’t want to waste a whole meal; at The Sizzling Wok I can try just a little bit of it and if I like it go back for more.
My signature plate is chicken, pineapple, water chestnuts, peanuts and noodles with satay powder, cinnamon and a blend of sweet & sour and Mongolian sauce. I know these sounds like a lot of ingredients but it is a really simple dish but absolutely full of flavours I love.
I did decide to be a bit more daring last night and introduced some peppers and bamboo shoots into the mixture on my second bowl. I also swapped the satay powder for five spice and added a tiny pinch of garlic.
I would definitely recommend somewhere like this if you are a picky eater, the choice is huge and no one knows what you like better than you!
Where do you like to eat out? Do you eat out more at Christmas?
