As many of you know Lauren is my BFF, we have been friends since the birth of baby Jesus so it was only right we celebrated his birthday together! Ok, so maybe since we were 13 but that’s the same thing, right?
The funny thing is, when Lauren and I first met we never really hit it off, she was a friend of a friend who had just arrived at my Upper School and was moving in on the new set of friends I had just made. I didn’t understand what was going on but I didn’t like it!
So, if you were to tell me in Year 9 that Lauren would be the only one of my classmates that I would see on a weekly basis I would think you were crazy!
But, when Lauren and I actually got to know each other we realised we were basically the same person; we laughed at all the same things, we made the same sarcastic comments in our heads and we thought our made up songs were the best thing ever.
Lauren and I have shared a million and one memories that I won’t bore you by trying to explain them all. But Lauren and I are family, we have holidayed with each other’s family, Laurens remix of a Johnny Cash classic was the soundtrack to one of my summers, we have watched movies over and over and we can finish each other’s sentences.
Family doesn’t mean blood to me, it means my door is always open for you no matter where you are or why you need me, I will be here. And that really is the relationship I have with Lauren. I can go weeks without seeing her but it would never be awkward when we do meet up, my family will always invite her in no matter how long it’s been since the last time they saw her and I will always call her g-rents Nan and Granddad.
Crackhead, this one was mainly for you. But also to clear up some confusion as to why I said family and not family plus Lauren when talking to you guys about my holidays. I hope you don’t hate me for some of what you are about to see when you scroll down Lauren!
